Female freedom fighter Bir Protik Taramon Bibi

Bir Protik Taramon Bibi, who is one of two awarded female freedom fighters in our country.
The awarded freedom fighter was out of sight to us so long. An investigator found her in 1990 and introduced her to people.
The heroic woman is an inhabitant of Shankar-Madhobpur village of Kodalkati union under Rajibpur upazila of Kurigram district. Before being introducing, she worked as house servant and passed her life with very hardship. She had illness in several times of years.
After investigating by the history investigator, a female agitation was created in the country. Then the heroic woman was given a reception by the government.
The freedom fighter Bir Protik Taramon Bibi passes often her time through memorizing recollection of the liberation war’71. She born in a poor family of the village and was about 14 years old during the war. Rajibpur area (upazila) was under Roumari thana (upazila) which was under sector No. 11 during the liberation war. Then Roumari thana was only one free region.
Freedom fighter formed the first camp in Abdul Aziz Master’s home in the Sankar-Madhobpur village in Roumari thana. Then a cooker was needed there. A Taramon’s cousin Khalil Islam requested to her mother to give Taramon for cooking work in the camp. Her mother Kulsum Bibi said --- would Taramon do this work? And who will take her responsibility there?
On her mother’s word, a freedom fighter Muhib Habilder took Taramon as a step-daughter for their cooking work.
Then she came in the camp. The boiled rice of about one mound of rice was prepared in the camp every day. The boiled rice with curry was sent into three camps.
Her activity in the freedom fighting was started in this way. After some days the camp was shifted in Insaf Ali’s home in the nearest village of the thana. Later the camp was shifted four times in various areas while she was associated with freedom fighters.
Her daily duties were cooking, washing dresses, placing arms in camp, hearing radio massage and finding trace of invaders.
In a leisure time, her like foster-father Muhib Habilder (freedom fighter) called her and said to Taramon --- Taramon, you will be learnt firing. In this proposal Taramon afraid and told --- could I do this work?
Then her new fighting life was started. She was introduced about different types of arms in leisure time of her common duties. At first she learnt firing of Rifles. On the first day, she felt a pain in her chest causing opposite force of the rifles.
After learning about firing she told her foster-father --- Baba, I shall fight as your associate against Pak army.
At the time the fighting was going on and Pak armies were attacking from different sides. Then freedom fighters were staying in the fifth camp which was Ketantari Uchu Paira area of Roumari thana.
Taramon was fit in investigating work. She would go to Pak army camp lapping black ink in her face. Sometimes she went into Pak camp playing mad role and prayed food to them. They threw brads her and driven away from the camp.
She would ensure about position and number of Pak army. Then she would inform to the freedom fighter camp. Sometimes she was taken into fighting field. He was been important to freedom fighters.
The country was become independence in December’71 while she was in Kalasona Ketontari camp in Roumari. Then Muhib Habilder with her went into Joydebhpur Army Cantonment (Dhaka) to hand over the arms and joint with Army. There Taramon lived to Muhib for about one year.
Later she came back in her father house in Sankar Madhobpur village under Roumari thana in Kurigram.
Taramon Bibi said I remember all freedom fighters, who had taken my cooking meal in the camps, when anyone is interested to learn about my freedom fighting.
Many days the freedom fighters passed without meal and without sleep, but their faces were smiley and strong vows to the country. Many freedom fighters are still passing their lives with hardship, it should not be possible, she said.
