Students’ Library’ with some books in Mojahedul’s house in 2000. Then there
were no ten people like SSC passed men in the village Araji Palashbari. To make
more educated, the students conducted reading and free coaching for school
students through the library. Student Jangir Alom, who is a now Warrant Officer
of Bangladesh Army, played a main role for organising local students.
While number of students of the library was increased,
they constructed a two-stored tin-shad house beside Tapurchar Government Primary
School at Araji Palashbari village in October, 2008. To create a good
atmosphere of reading, they have made a garden around the library.
There are over 400 books of various types including
study books, story books, books on computer, books on general knowledge, books
on freedom fighting and biography of noble men. The books were collected from
ex-students and locals. The ex-students have been providing four journals

over 120 students (including 55 girl students) are involved with the library.
The library is kept open at 6:00 am to 8:00 pm
everyday where 60-80 students study there. Now local students are taught in two

Halokhana union from 2008, but there are about 450 alive of the planted.
Shahida Akhtar, a reader of the library and BA
(honours) student of Kurigram Government College, said, “We are facing shortage
chairs, tables, book-shelves, books and accommodation of the library being
increased readers. We (girl students) have no scope of studying in the government
public library of Kurigram town. At least 15 girl students of Araji Palashbari,
Tapurchar, Subharkuthi and Char Subharkuthi villages of the union study in the
library. We need of help with books and furniture for the library.”
“An Australia-emigrant (Bangladeshi) Anwarul Islam
Bakshi donated two computer sets in the library in October, 2013 while he
visited the library activities. The students take training on basic skills of
computer through Halokhana Union Digital Centre accordingly and exercise skills
group-wise at 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm every day,” said Jahangir Alom, General
Secretary of the library.
“Halokana union is a poor area in Kurigram district. We
have been conducting the library activities through voluntary service. Our main
aim is: establishing Halokhana as an ideal and educated union. We expect, may
establish many libraries like Oracle Students’ Library in rural areas of the
country,” said Saiful Islam, President of the library.
“We need more books and furniture, but we do not
receive money directly from donors for library activities. Besides, we need
agriculture-based books and journals as some locals come in the library to read
newspapers and books every day,” said Saiful.
