A new technology to drive away birds from paddy field
|
A farmer of Kurigram has invented a
new technology with few costs to drive away the birds from paddy field.
To drive
away birds from the paddy field, no man is needed. Some pieces of bamboo and
ribbons of video cachet player are used to prepare the technology.
While
visiting an Aush paddy field near Kurigram stadium, some people were observing
the technology of driving away birds and enjoying it.
Inventor of
the technology and owner of the paddy field is Abdul Gani Sarkar, 45, who is a
Diploma educated in agriculture and farmer of Krishnapur village under Kurigram
municipality.
Abdul Gani
said, “I have been cultivating various crops including paddy in 2.20 decimals
of land for last eight years. For cultivating advance winter vegetables, I
cultivate paddy in Aush season (May to August) every year. During ripe of the
paddy, small birds in team-to-team come in the paddy field and eat paddy. As
few paddy fields are cultivated in the Aush season. For this, I would use
tin-boxes to create sound for driving away birds and would expend about Tk
6,000 per season.”
“Thanking, I
collected some new and rejected ribbons of video cachet player. Then, the
ribbons were tied with bamboo sticks in square system like boundary markers in
the paddy field where, distance of one side of the square area is around 20
feet,” said Abdul Gani.
Abdul Gani
narrated technique of the technology -- in this way; “the ribbon is very thin
and weightless. And it shines in daylight and vibrates with a low air. As a
result, the small birds fear the shining and think it has been set as a trap
for catching them. The birds do not want to come near the field area.”
“I expended
per years about Taka six thousand to drive away the birds through creating
sound by tin-boxes. The amount was estimated as a cost of five bamboos, 15
tin-boxes, nylon rope and 20 labourers for around 20 days up to harvesting.
But, about Taka one thousand has been expended to make the new technology where
no man is needed to drive away the birds. It is a very saving economically,”
said Gani.
“Some
farmers are interested to the technology visiting the field and want to make it
in coming season. I think, agro-based farmers of the country may be informed
about the technology by agriculture officials,” said Gani.
